Robot From HELL!!

What the heck. Bruce Broughton made this as difficult as possible just to mess with us. Case in point: Violin I @ mm. 88 & 89. It's the same measure repeated but he uses D# instead of Eb the second time for no apparent reason. On top of that, doesn't measure 89 look like the strings have 4 beats? It should be 3/4 there. UGH!!!!

Are we supposed to do the whole score, or is there a particular point at which we can stop?
I don't think the violins have 4 beats on bar 89, but then again, I can't make out all his notes. Why, oh why do composers have to write by hand? At least we should all have to take caligraphy classes...

And what about the very first triplet in the viola staff? It goes C->B#->C (?!?!?) I can infer that he wants to copy the violin part but sheesh, could it be any more confusing? I thought time wasted at the stand was money down the drain.

About the D# and Eb... it doesn't matters. Makes no sense. And in measure 89 just ignore the quarter-note rest. It shouldn't be there. And yes... the violas play with the violins. I guess he was too lazy to write the # before the C...
Renata... Ed said there was no need to do all of it. There's a double bar at measure 53. I think the next eight-note is a good point to stop if you don't want to do the whole score.

hi, this is dave from ed's class. i just found the blog while procrastinating. it's very cool, i wish i found it weeks ago. it's good to know there are others out there sharing the pain.

btw, if you do plan on doing the entire piece, there are lots of surprises in the last 10-15 bars.

Thank you Mercedes! That was very helpful.

Welcome aboard, Dave. Joe very thoughtfully created this blog last quarter (when we had class email lists).
