Electronic Composition Email Adresses
Since UCLA doesn't seem to condone our sharing of email addresses, I thought I'd created this post for us to share our emails. Once it seems like everyone who's gonna post has posted, We can send a group email out so it's official.
I'll get started:

How to sync commercial cue
Hi Electronic Film Scoring classmates. Here is a how to guide to set up the 1st cue in Logic.
1st things 1st, make sure sample rate is set to 48K. Settings->Audio
To import cue:
Options-->Movie-->open movie
The audio track can just be drag n' dropped
The film has quite a bit of lead in information so it needs to be synced up (the audio is already appropriately synced).
Settings->Video->Video Project Settings
Set the Movie Start Time to the beginning of the time code on the cue (1:00:29:22)
Now, find the frame that you wish to start the cue at. (I chose 1:00:35:04).
Settings->Syncronization. Set "Plays at SMPTE" to this value.

Waking Dreams
Dear All
The film named Waking Dreams is a fun 'coming of age'
comedy premiering tonight at the Sunset 5 Theaters in Hollywood.
The score I composed features a number of interesting musicians including Shenkar (founding member of Shakti, and voice of the TV show 'Heroes').
It would be a pleasure to share this with my fellow UCLA film scoring buddies. Hope you can make it down.

TimeMachine is Great
I just found the original cymbal sample I destroyed when I reversed/tempo changed it. Having a Time Machine backup was so much easier than digging through the Logic install discs.
Anyway, chalk one up for Apple developers.

"And Starring Pancho Villa As Himself"
Here's the clip we're scoring-- it doesn't do much good to watch it, as the final version has NO MUSIC AT ALL. Enjoy?

Ghosts Need Some Rest
Oh brother....I just made the mistake of renting the film. Faye Dunaway pronounces timbre like she just chopped down a tree.

The next rocking assignment
Anyone checked out next assignment's instrumentation? guitar, bass, drums, piano, harmonica, and clarinet. That'll be an interesting change.

"In C" for free!
Yes, it rhymes. Whatever.
Anyway, today (Friday the 3rd) only, you can download Terry Riley's "In C" for free through Amazon. That's 42 minutes of delicious, major key minimalism, for $0.
If you like music and free stuff, click here.

Synthestration this quarter
Can I just say: this Synthestration class this quarter is already rocking.
For anyone considering it, by all means join us.
For those who have taken Synthestration in its previous guise and were, shall we say, less than satisfied with certain aspects of it:
Fletcher Beasley is a very nice, knowledgeable and NOT JADED OUT OF HIS RIGHT MIND composer who has, in the very first lesson, already showed us screen pictures of his Logic arrange and mix windows, suggested several books, plugins, sounds, and possible ways to make our programs and computers run better, and laid out a very sensible syllabus that splits the orchestra so we focus on different instrument families each week or so to learn particulars of how to make them sound good.
Take this class again when/if you have a chance to. I can't absolutely guarantee it will be the best ever, but it sure seems it will be extremely useful, and possibly refreshing.

Baton Shopping is Great
For anyone else who has never purchased a baton before, let me tell you, there's nothing to make someone look cooler than going into a music store, standing at the counter, picking up different sized baton's for 20 minutes, and pretending to conduct until you find one that "feels good".
Cork or wood grips? My preference was wood but the only one they had was tiny so I bought a cork one.
Oh, even cooler: stuck in traffic with the newly purchased baton on the passenger seat and some Hadyn Scherzo on the radio. You know where this went...

Monday Night
I realize that I paid no attention in class when we were deciding what time class would start on Monday (6:30? 7?), and if we have to bring a "score" or not for our Glass-ish piece. Can anybody help me out?
